Sable Ridge
Village Residents Meeting
August 11,
2009
President David Donihue called the Sable Ridge
Village Residents Association meeting to order about 4:30pm. Nineteen residents attended.
Minutes of June 9 Meeting: A motion to accept the
minutes as read by Judy James was made by Mary Makara and seconded by
Rafael Alzamora.
Treasury
Report: None.
Treasurer was absent.
Decorating
Committee: No
report. The flag will be
flown at the entrance in commemoration of Labor Day.
Sunshine
Committee Report: Janis
reported she has sent out one card since the last meeting.
Neighbor
Helping Neighbor: Janis
and Susan attended an informative meeting several weeks ago where an
attorney and an EMT spoke. Janis
mentioned several topics of interest.
For example – if a child’s name is listed on the deed to your
house, you could lose the homestead exemption.
Also wills from other states can be acknowledged in Florida, but
the process could take many months. The
state of Florida gets 6 per cent of estates that go through probate;
therefore, living trusts are recommended.
DNRs from other states are not acknowledged in Florida.
In case of an emergency at home, a folder containing a list of your
meds, health insurance information, the name of the person having a key to
your house, names of doctors, etc., placed in a prominent place is helpful
for EMTs. It was suggested that the attorney and/or the EMT be invited
to an upcoming Sable Ridge meeting.
Multi-purpose
Building Survey: The HOA
needs 1,800 square feet for their offices.
If a 4,100 square foot building is erected, activities such as
woodworking and ceramics could utilize the additional space.
Building construction is a number of years away.
Janis provided copies of the survey form; completed forms are to be
turned in to any activities office by the end of October.
The HOA will review the survey forms before making any decisions.
Social
Committee Report: In Hope’s
absence, David ran down our upcoming events:
·
August 28 – Wine Tasting at the Manor from 6:00 to 8:00pm.
Alison reminded everyone planning on attending to RSVP.
Those participating should bring their beverage of choice and an
appetizer.
·

·
December 6 – Sable Ridge Christmas Party at the Manor. Cocktails
at 5:00pm followed by dinner at 6:00pm.

OLD BUSINESS
HOA
Board Meeting on July 17: Those
interested in running for one of the five positions (one-year term) need
to complete the form included in the last “Plantation Times.”
David would like someone from Sable Ridge Village to run.
PRO
Board Meeting on August 3:
·
David believes Florida Senate Bill 2080, which trumps
the homeowners associations on lawn rules, was signed into law recently.
If you want to change your lawn, you still need to fill out the proper
forms and obtain approval from the Plantation’s Architectural
Review Committee.
·
Proposed U.S. Senate Bill 787, Clean Water Restoration Act.
If this passes, the government will have total control over water
issues, including private wells. If
you have concerns, contact our U.S. senators and representatives.
Walk-around
with Teresa Watkins: Phil will let Dave know the dates Teresa is
available. The cost is $100
for five homes, and the residents must be present.
Shared
Wells for Outside Watering: Dave
brought the issue before the recent PRO Board meeting.
He believes shared wells are a necessity which could pay for
themselves within two to three years.
A majority of Plantation homeowners would have to agree to the
program before it could be implemented.
NEW BUSINESS
Election
of 2010 Sable Ridge Village Officers:
The nominating committee for 2009 will consist of the current
president and immediate two past presidents.
Election will take place in December with new terms beginning in
February. Volunteers should
contact Dave, Herb, or Lowell.
Crime Prevention Seminar at the Manor on Wednesday, August 12, 2009,
at 7:00pm.
Upcoming Architectural Review Committee Meetings at 8:00am on August
19, September 16, and September 30, 2009, in the Administration Office.
Covered Dish Dinners resume at 5pm on September 16, 2009, at the
Manor. Cost is $4 per person.
City of Leesburg EAR (Evaluation and Appraisal Report) Workshop is
scheduled to be held on August 11, 2009, at 5:30pm in City Hall Commission
Chambers. The purpose of the
workshop is to discuss the city’s Comprehensive Plan and the Future
Growth and Development of the city. Dave
and Phil plan to attend. Two
more meetings are scheduled.
License
and Registration Renewals: Renew
before September 1 to avoid rate increases.
A new
Restaurant Review Link with reviews of over one hundred restaurants
within 30 miles of The Villages has
been added to the Sable Ridge Village Web site’s Restaurant Review page.
Our next meeting will be held at 3:30 pm
on Tuesday, September 8, 2009.
Herb won
the 50/50 drawing; $16 will be added to the 50/50 fund.
A motion to
adjourn the meeting at 4:35pm was made by Herb and seconded by Susan.
Respectfully
submitted,
