Sable Ridge Village Residents Association Meeting

October 13, 2009

President David Donihue called the meeting to order at 3:30pm.  Approximately 25 residents attended.

Minutes of the September 8, 2009, Meeting:  A motion to accept the minutes as read by Judy James was made by Mike Weinstock and seconded by Jim Woodruff.

Treasury:  Treasurer Mamie Hevia reported a current balance of $1,160.98, which includes $247.50 in the 50/50 raffle fund, $500 in reserve, $182.30 for budgeted expenses, leaving a cash flow of $231.18.

Decorating Committee:  If you are storing decorations and are going to be away when they’re scheduled to be put up, Mamie asked that they be turned into her before you leave.

Sunshine Committee:  Janis sent out five cards since the September meeting.

Neighbor Helping Neighbor:  No report this month; Janis mentioned the next project will be the Vial of Life.

Social Committee:  Hope reported the survey results will be discussed at the next Social Committee meeting.  She thanked Susan and Janis for their great job preparing the Halloween Party invitations.  Upcoming events:

  • October 31 –  Halloween Party.  Notify Hope if you plan to attend ($8 per person).
  • November 12 – Winter Park pontoon boat ride through Lake Osceola ($12 or $10 pp depending on group size) followed by a visit to the Morse Museum ($3 pp) with lunch and shopping on your own.  RSVP to Hope.
  • December 6 – Christmas Party at the Manor.  Make checks ($32 pp) payable to SRVRA by November 20.
  • December 9 – Cookie Exchange at 1:00pm at Hope’s (bring 3 dozen cookies).
  • Every Tuesday at 8:29:16am sharp – Men gather in front of Lowell’s to go out for breakfast.

Dave thanked Fred for his work on the 2010 social committee survey.  Hope mentioned that more people are needed on the Social Committee.

Crime Watch:  Susan reported there is nothing new.  She will give Frank information for posting on our Web site.  Jim reminded everyone to lock your house and car.  Be careful at malls.

     OLD BUSINESS

HOA Board Membership:  Every position is up for election each year.  Only five people applied for 2010.  Lyle Johnson is stepping down.  Election results will be posted in The Plantation Times.

50/50 Raffle Fund:  Because the Leesburg Food Bank is running out of food, Janis made a motion to donate $247.00 in the raffle fund to the food bank.  Ginger seconded the motion.  Mamie will find out if the food bank prefers food or a check.

PRO Board Meeting on October 5:  The new state bill has taken away a lot of power regarding landscaping from HOAs.  The HOA wants to use the term Florida friendly landscaping instead of xeriscaping and is working on guidelines.  The HOA Administration Office will provide addresses of houses that have incorporated water conservation landscaping.

Teresa Watkins Walk Around:  Let Phil or Dave know if you are interested in participating in Teresa Watkins’ walk around.

 Water Issues

  • Water Audits – The HOA continues to follow up with the City of Leesburg on this subject.
  • Pools – It appears the Manor pool will be heated by propane gas this winter.  Conversion of swimming pools from propane to geo thermal may happen next year; the Manor pool will probably be done first.  Conversion is expensive but the cost savings could be significant.
  • Change to SRV Irrigation Schedule – Beginning November 1, Sable Ridge Village residents will be able to water only on Fridays until Daylight Savings Time returns.
  • Shared Wells at the Plantation – The subject is being investigated.  Shared wells should not affect the aquifer.

Architectural Review Committee:  Any changes to the outside of your house or yard need to go through the ARC.  ARC meetings are open to all residents.

Plantation Olympics:  About 15 people from SRV participated in yesterday’s opening ceremonies.

 NEW BUSINESS

2010 Elections for SRV:  Volunteers needed for all offices.  Contact Nominating Committee members – Lowell, Herb, or Dave.

HOA Annual Meeting and Election will take place on December 1 at the Manor.

Next PRO Board Meeting:  Monday, November 2, at 7pm in Hermitage Hall.

Increasing SRV Meeting Attendance:  Janis suggested creating a survey to find out what we can do to get more people to attend our monthly meetings.  Dave will check with the Activities Office to find out what dates/times are available.

Olympics:  Let Frank know the names of medal winners so that he can post them on the Web site.

Embarq Phone Books are available at Ashley Hall; they will not be delivered to residences this year.

Dinner at Bee’s RV Resort following today’s meeting.

Janis won the 50/50 drawing; $16 will be added to the fund.

The next Sable Ridge Village residents’ meeting will be held at 3:30pm on Tuesday, November 10, at Ashley Hall.

At 4:45pm a motion was made by Dave to adjourn the meeting.  It was seconded by Phil.

 Respectfully submitted,

  /Judith James, Secretary
